Get to Know Saheed Adepoju, Computer Engineer Who Invented INYE, Africa’s First Tablet Computer

A Nigerian computer expert, Saheed Adepoju, invented INYE-1 and INYE-2 computer tablets expressly built for the African market.

Saheed Adepoju is a computer engineering graduate from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State since 2005, who has become a well-known engineer at Intel in California, US.

He is a co-founder of Encipher Limited, a Nigerian technology company that introduced the first Android-powered tablet in Nigeria.

Saheed Adepoju, 28, announced the INYE-1, a 7-inch resistive screen tablet, in April 2010. The smartphone runs Android 2.1 and allows users to connect to the internet using its integrated WIFI card and to utilize an external 3G modem from GSM networks. It also delivers roughly 3 hours of battery life and supports HDMI output to HDMI enabled devices.

Meanwhile, the INYE-2, which debuted in May 2011, is an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen tablet. It runs Android 2.2 and allows users to connect to the internet via both its built-in Wi-Fi card and SIM. It has a battery life of around 8 hours and can connect to other USB devices.

According to Good Nigeria, Saheed Adepoju built Android software in 2009 with the intention of testing its operation on compatible software.

Unfortunately, he did not locate a suitable gadget to achieve this, so sourced till he came to China where he subsequently received hardware components beneficial for this purpose which later spawned a product named the Inye Tablet, first Africa’s tablet device.

All of this created the basis upon which he co-founded Encipher Limited with Anibe Agamah, the tech firm designed to add value to the technology sector with the primary aim as customer pleasure and products affordability.

He eventually contracted the production process with a firm in China but owns the product patent to their company’s name.

The INYE tablet was built for GSM service and provides the consumer with means of accessing the web, sophisticated multimedia functions, resistive touch screen, WiFi connectivity and other essential functionalities of a modern-day tablet.

The tablet also functions as hardware, allowing software companies to place their apps for tablet users.

Speaking about his accomplishments in the tech field, he stated, “The ABC of getting money is not always about brick and material, an office, and employees; it is about the internet. The number of people who access information from the internet will skyrocket during the next two years. This is where the business world is continually growing and the path that business owners should take.”
